Protein is having a moment, and it is hard to ignore. Walk through any grocery store and you will see it everywhere, from protein bars and cereals to chips and desserts.
It sounds helpful, but it can also be misleading.
Why protein is being pushed so heavily
Protein is important, especially as you get older, because it supports muscle, recovery, and overall health. But the explosion of protein products is also driven by marketing.
What is often misleading
Many of these products contain relatively small amounts of protein compared to their calorie content. A product with 10 grams of protein and over 350 calories is not an efficient way to meet your needs.
What actually works
You do not need more products. You need a clear target.
For most women, a simple starting point is aiming for roughly 0.7 to 1 gram of protein per pound of goal body weight.
So if your goal weight is 150 lbs, you’re likely aiming somewhere between 105 and 150 grams per day. You don’t need to hit it perfectly, but getting close consistently makes a big difference.

Why balance matters
Protein is important, but so are carbohydrates and fats. When meals are balanced, your body performs better.
What this looks like in real life
